FUNERAL SERVING
The office will give the team leader an estimate of how many to plan on serving and approximately how many will be attending in order to plan for the appropriate number to be served. You will be called by one of the team leaders in your group to help with bringing food, serving, or cleaning up.
For a late A.M. funeral
Hot dishes or meat & cheese slices
Buttered rolls
Pickles
Cakes
Coffee/Cold drinks
For an afternoon funeral
Sandwiches
Pickles
Chips
Cakes
Coffee/Cold drinks
One 9X13 cake serves 20-24 pieces usually. Try to have at least one angel food cake for diabetics.
Paper plates, cups and napkins may be used. However, china is preferred and cheaper. If you do use china, someone must know how to use the dishwasher. Try to have someone present who does know how to use the dishwasher – it is much more economical and the right thing to do for our environment.
When supplies are purchased and payment is due to you, place in an envelope:
1. your name
2. The funeral being served
3. The cash register slips and accounting information.
This can be given to Chet Garness, treasurer, or left in his box in the office. He will reimburse you. If you charged the supplies at Brink’s market, you need to give the receipts to Chet. (Place in his mail box which is located in the church office).
The main kitchen coordinator is Carol Stromgren. She will keep the kitchen supplied with paper plates, cups, napkins, sugar, cream, etc. If you see that the kitchen is in need of supplies, please call her at 257-4567.
Many thanks to all the women who help keep the kitchen clean. Let’s ALL do what we can to keep the kitchen clean!
Suggested amounts to plan for:
For serving 50 people:
6 or 7 dozen cocktail buns
ground ham salad – 5 pounds (1 lb. for every 15 buns) You can mix your own much cheaper.
2, 9X13 cakes and one angel food cake
For serving 150 people:
19 dozen cocktail buns
ground ham salad – 15 lbs.
7, 9X13 cakes and two angel food cakes
For serving 200 people:
3 pots of coffee
25 dozen cocktail buns
ground ham salad – 20 lbs.
10, 9X13 cakes and two angel food cakes
When serving a morning funeral ask for hot dishes to serve 12 – or you can buy the supplies and make them at church.
Those who do not work or bring food will be asked to donate $10.00. Hopefully, this will take care of our kitchen supplies when needed. Place $10.00 or more in an envelope and mark it for funeral and place it in the offering plate. You could also mail it in or drop the $10.00 off at the church office.
