                                                          GREETERS

Your main purpose for being a greeter is to make everyone feel welcome at our services.  Be friendly, smile, give them a firm handshake and if possible, call them by their name.  Our names are very important to us.
Please arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the service.  There are name tags (found on the table upstairs next to the bulletins) to place on yourselves so that people can see who you are.  Remain until the service begins.
We would like to have two greeters at the bottom of the stairs at the 8:30 am worship service.  For the 10:45 am contemporary service, we would like to have greeters standing at both the front and back doors into the building. Please be sure to have an adult with each child, if children are involved.
When you see someone you do not know, ask them their name and if they are visitors, please have them sign the guest book and bring them to the welcome desk for a treat.  Don’t be embarrassed if they say they are members; you may not have met them before.  Maybe the best way to proceed is to greet them with a smile and say something like, “I don’t believe I know your name – are you a member of this congregation?”
If you recognize someone as a visitor you have seen before, affirm their choosing to return.  Express your pleasure at seeing them again.  When they sign the guest book, please have them fill in their address and phone number.
Above all, your friendly, cheerful, upbeat greeting will be a priceless gift that the congregation can share with its members and visitors.  Your way of making them feel welcome will have a lot to do with whether they come back.
Thank you for being a greeter!  This is a very important task to fill!

                                                          4. Pass the offering plates at the designated time during the worship service.

Remove the cover from the Baptismal Font (This is usually done by the Head Usher) prior to a baptism.  Remain up in front to usher the baptismal party to the font and then back to their pew after the rite of baptism.  Then replace the cover on the font.
                                                          6. Hand out any materials to the congregation, such as papers, after the service, standing below the stairs.

Usher the congregation to the altar during the service of communion.  This should be done in an orderly and efficient manner.  There is room for 32 to 34 people around the altar, enabling 16 or 17 people on each side.  When they come from the altar, be sure to be there to help anyone who needs help down the stair.
                                                          8. After each service, clean up any papers in the pews or on the floor, and straighten the hymnals in the rack.
                                                          9. Be sure that the lights, windows and any other physical areas of the church are taken care of after the last service of the day.
                                                          10. Be aware of anyone having any physical problems during the service and provide the help needed.
                                                          11. Courtesy, quietness and reverence are the main requirements in the ushers conduct.  They should be pleasant, kind, and hospitable.  Don’t stand and whisper!
                                                          12. Ushers should be present at least 30 minutes before the service.  They should be properly dressed and neatly groomed.
                                                          13. If an usher cannot serve, they should be responsible to exchange with someone else.  Let the church office know of any changes.

The nursery is located just beyond the narthex area, past the coffee alcove.
Please be there at least 15 minutes before the worship service begins and remain there until the last child is picked up.
Have parents sign their name and the child’s name on the sign-in sheet.
If there is a problem with the child, ask one of the ushers to help you find the parents.
If you can’t keep your commitment to be in the nursery please call someone from your serving group to replace you, and if you have trouble please call one of your team leaders.  Please do not leave the nursery unattended; people are counting on you being there.
One person for each service is needed.
Thank you for your willingness to serve!
